People are plenty up in arms about what OpenAI is doing. Honestly the hubbub about the training data is going to be a short term thing. OpenAI is on the precipice of essentially rendering most creative and white collar jobs unnecessary, and that’s going to be what a lot of people are about to get VERY upset over.

I personally think the training data is an avenue into going after AI in general, and a very short term discussion once the other shoe drops.

Copyright is as badly understood by most Americans as AI but is often used to unjustly bludgeon both companies and private citizens alike, so that’s seen as the lowest hanging fruit in terms of an attack vector.
